Early in the year I was praying for a stronger faith, and recent happenings are really stretching my faith. And I am learning that…..
Childlike faith means things ahead are uncertain and inside you are a storm and a panic but you are still looking to God.
Childlike faith means you do not give up but keep believing, keep trusting.
Childlike faith means you made a mess of things, but you trust in His love and wisdom and ability to work things out for good.
Childlike faith means that even if we do not get what we want, we are still at peace because we have Christ with us.

Rudyard Kipling won the Nobel Prize for literature. He wrote the book titled “Jungle Book” which was made into a movie. One of Kipling’s memorable speeches was a commencement address at Mc Gill University in Montreal. Warning the graduates against overconcern for worldly honors and wealth, he said, “Someday you will meet a person who cares for none of these things. Then you will know how really poor you are.”
I thought as Harry’s Island (Singapore) enters another period of prosperity, this would be a timely and useful reminder for all of us.

I was encouraged last week that Peter Lim mentioned he was willing to lead out the next kinabalu youth adventure. Peter has been a great help to me especially with the climb trainings and the advice he gives. He is a marathoner and he climbed Low’s Peak with ease in Mar 2005 in our first youth adventure. He also commands the respect of the youth, so this is an interesting development for a work that develops leadership with physical challenges, fun and excitement that appeals to males, something that they are comfortable with, that they can excel in. (If all we have is small groups and sharing thoughts and feelings, young girls and the bookish will thrive but the more hands-on and practical guys will be less confident). Giving greater scope to development of men in our church is important. The other guy for the long haul I am looking at is Julian Tan, on the left in the pic above, and Marcus. Just ideas and praying, just praying. Also Barny, me roomate, thinking out loud, mentioned he may want to organize one for the young adults. (Probably he’s thinking more retreat-like kind of thing). Wow!
Setting off this Friday, better stop rambling and start packing ……

When a leader makes a big mistake, he has to admit it, seek forgiveness from his people and learn to move on. He usually would feel a deep sense of responsibility and be burdened by the dashing of people’s hopes, but he has to take the heat, and be open and apologise. Today I did that and the climbers’ forgiveness is a release for me, to lead again another day, to take risks again, to be childlike in my faith in God.
This could be the best lesson about leadership they have learned.

Andrew passed me a classic book titled, “Why Revival Tarries?”by Leonard Ravenhill. I am using it for my Lent readings in the first half of the season. It is fuel for meditation and prayer. Here is a quotation from the book:“Poverty-stricken as the Church is today in many things, she is most stricken here, in the place of prayer. We have many organizers, but few agonizers; many players and payers, few prayers; many singers, few clingers; lots of pastors, few wrestlers; many fears, few tears; much fashion, little passion; many interferers, few intercessors; many writers, but few fighters. Failing here, we fail everywhere.”

I am feeling the stress of some big planning hiccups of the Mt Kinabalu Youth Adventure 2. It is the burden of bearing the disappointments of the climbers. It must be as bad or worse for Agnes and Peter Lim. The climbers are really gracious and kind to us though. We are learning to trust and believe. We are climbing even before the climb has begun.
