prayers of confession and forgiveness

October 3rd, 2007

Set prayers are helpful in that they help us to articulate what we vaguely or acutely feel but cannot express. The Psalms are largely set prayers, the prayer book of ancient Israel and contemporary orthodox Jews. I have compiled some of these prayers and put it in my static pages under SET PRAYERS for readers’ use: Prayers of Confession and Forgiveness.

I was just surfing online casually and I am surprised to find this prayers of forgiveness. I had recently just written two posts in my blog regarding forgiveness, with little biblical reference.

It’s a sad thing that many people refer forgiveness as an act of a Christian. It is true that this is one aspect that is frequently preached, but forgiveness is not just a Christian’s thing I feel. I always view it, as a gracious life act that releases someone else and myself from hatred.

If you’re interested, drop by my blog some day. That two posts can be found on the left sidebar under Special Rants.

Hi Ed
Yes I did. Cool design.
You are right forgiveness is a gracious life act that releases someone else and myself from hatred.
Couldn’t have said it any better.

Thanks Ed for generosity in perceiving “Christians” as forgiving people - at least some of us have managed to give the world the right aspiration of our faith.

Hopefully you will also forgive “Christians” for the land grabbing Crusades in ages past and other dastardly deeds committed by fallen Man in the name of GOD.

Pray for us that we can be more “Christ” like and less religious (Who is more right and justified)

I think Jesus just eft us with 2 simple commands: -

Love your God with all your mind, strength and all your heart.
Love your neighbour as yourself.

I am convinced we will have paradise on earth this moment if we can live up to these two seemingly simple commands.

Thanks Journeyman. Actually, being a Christian myself I often question what defines “Christians”. So it’s interesting what many people perceived Christians to be, or imagined it to be.

God’s forgiven me for my sins, so why shouldn’t I learn to forgive others in the same manner? The thing is I’ve come across many Christians attempting to preach the gospel to me not knowing I am very much a Christian myself, do they seriously live the words of the Bible?

To me, Christianity is not a religion but the principles of life. From sins leading to illnesses, from hatred leading to violence… They only become a religion when one says they believe in His Words, but not live His Words.

Ed,
Well said. Pray that we can walk as we profess.
God Bless.
