2.6 million donation

October 17th, 2007

I was so excited to have received this letter on the 13th October in my email: 2.6 million. Wow! how should I respond?

Dearest in Christ,

Greetings in the Name above all names, Jesus Christ our Lord and savior, I am Mrs Jennifer Prakash . I am married to Mr.Livingston Prakash who worked with Kuwait embassy in Ivory Coast for many years before he died in the year 2001.We were married without a child. He died after a brief illness that lasted for only four days. Before his death we were both born again Christian.

Since his death I decided not to remarry or get a child outside my matrimonial home which the Bible is against. When my late husband was alive he deposited the sum of (($2.600.000.00)two million six hundred thousand dollar in a Bank in Ivory Coast.Presently, this money is still in bank.Recently, my Doctor told me that I would not last for the next Eight months due to cancer problem.

The one that disturbs me most is my stroke sickness. Having known my condition I decided to donate this fund to a charity organization that will utilize this money the way I am going to instruct herein.I want an organization that will use this fund for orphanages, school and church ,widows, propagating the word of God and to endeavor that the house of God is maintained,Isaiah 56:7 For my house will be called a house of prayer for all nations.” The Bible made us to understand that “Blessed is the hand that giveth”.I took this decision because I don’t have any child that will inherit this money and my husband relatives are not Christians and I don’t want my husband’s efforts to be used by unbelievers.

I don’t want a situation where this money will be used in an ungodly way. This is why I am taking this decision. I am not afraid of death hence I know where I am going. I know that I am going to be in the bosom of the Lord.Exodus 14 VS 14 says that “the lord will fight my case and I shall hold my peace”. I don’t need any telephone communication in this regard because of my health hence the presence of my husband’s relatives around me always. I don’t want them to know about this development. With God all things are possible. As soon as I receive your reply I shall give you the contact of the Bank .

I await your soonest response with your full information, example.
Your full name and Adress ——————
Photocopy of your international passport————–or Driving particulars
Age……………………..

I will use the above information that i regquested from you to get an authority letter that will prove you the present beneficiary of this fund from federal ministry of Justice Cote D’Ivoire. I want you and the church to always pray for me because the lord is my shephard. My happiness is that I lived a life of a worthy Christian.
Whoever that Wants to serve the Lord must serve him in spirit and Truth. Please always be prayerful all through your life.

Any delay in your reply will give me room in sourcing another church for this same purpose. Please assure me that you will act accordingly as I Stated herein. Hoping to receive your reply.
Remain blessed in the Lord

Take care,
In Christ’s Holy Love
Yours Sister in christ
Sister Jennifer Prakash.

WOW WHEE!! 2.6 MILLION DOLLARS!
Is it in US or Sin Dollars…
Who on earth would randomly email some pastor to give his organization that big sum of money. Rather, a decently person would just present it to her church organization so that they can fund it out to the needy.

This email sounds too convincing! See the CATCH…
she needs yr detailed particulars…photostated passport or driver’s license and yr full name and address!
And not only that… she doesn’t want to be contactable!!
Such a scam!!
I would want to believe this is for real but…..

yup, kenny.
guess they found you too. it was a big thing here. NBC/Dateline did a 2 hour 2 part thing on that, few months ago. Sometimes called Nigerian scam.
poor old ladies (plus some innocent pastors too) all got pulled into it. cashed in all their money, to find out they were cheated.
twice i played along with them, asking them to meet me at Petronas Towers, (KL) at the rooftop, midnight. or some weird meeting place.
never heard from them again.
p/s - maybe you need another email address just for your blog.

kenny,

its called “i go chop your dollar, the 419 song”

the lyrics are like, ” i take all your money, i am the winner, you are the loser…etc etc.
hope you get to see the you tube clip, kenny. take care.

Our church received this and was ecstatic over it. Reality sets in shortly after and realized it was a scam. Well, at least we had a adrenaline booster for a short while.

an old internet scam that comes in different forms and guises. also called nigerian scam because originated from nigeria. has many gullible people around the world fooled and cheated of their savings. there will always be a catch - e.g. deposit some money first, provide your bank account details etc. never respond to their emails as they will picked up your email addresses, personal details etc.

bottom line is simple - don’t be greedy. greed for money will pull us down. as st paul says ‘learn to be contented’. if the Lord do give, it needn’t be in this ’suspicious’ manner of having to divulge your personal details, bank account number, id, etc.

It comes from Nigeria where people lived in extreme poverty and 50% are evangelical Charismatic Christians, some who see Christianity as a way of out of their difficult lives. The letter is of religious nature in line with their beliefs.

Whilst understanding their poverty, it is no excuse to steal so blatantly. If a donation of SGD 100 is asked and is of genuine need, perhaps people will give.

I wonder who they learnt from? Could it be some of the churches there who asked them to “sow” that they might “reap”, but the churches ending up mis-using the money, and being in the ministry is seen as a way to get money and escape from poverty?
