courageous Christian woman
She spoke against decriminalisation of section 377A in Parliament with a conviction and clarity that is rarely seen coming from an NMP. It was part of a fierce public debate, which I think augurs well, and perhaps signal a lifting of the lid on tempestuous debate of controversial social issues. We will know a new day has dawned if such hot debates are permitted on political hot potatoes. Nevertheless, we can take comfort that apathy was not the order of the day. However, the vicious attacks on Prof Thio Li-ann by Alfian Saat and another anonymous person and internet flaming in on-line forums, though we understand the rage, are uncalled for, but definitely part and parcel of speaking up publicly on divisive issues. She knew what she was into. She must have counted the cost, and still considered it worth the price she had to pay to stand up and speak up for what she believed in. You have to salute her courage. You have to admire her forbearance. By the way, she is the daughter of Dr Thio Su Mien who spoke twice in our sunday services on inner healing, if you recall.
Talking about section 377a, I think Alfred Dodwell, Christian lawyer, has written an interesting post about it in his blog HERE, after the fiery issue has become embers, and is less volatile, and people are hopefully more rational.
