deserving double winners

May 22nd, 2008

man_u.jpgSo Manchester United has won the double…….again. It just doesn’t go down well for the majority of football fans, including me. Fans with Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea. I thought the two Jews at Chelsea would tip the odds in their favor with two equally matched teams. Manchester again. Even with that 1billion pounds debt, we have to admit they were deserving winners and had showcased good attacking play in most of their matches. Hmmm….I wonder when Ferguson will retire. Because it doesn’t look like monsieur Wenger is going to break his budget to put together a championship team next season. So the only hope of Arsenal winning in the next season is for Ferguson to be promoted up to the boardroom, and Chelsea to have three of their star players leave in summer or a new manager appointed.

My fun predictions were right on only one count: Man U to win the Premier League! Its easy to guess who’ll be in the top four. The order is much more difficult. Well, we will have to wait till next season. Meanwhile the only thing interesting enough to get my attention would be transfer news because the European Championship just doesn’t appeal to me without England in it.

I know this sounds archaic but I really think that a penalty shoot-out is wretched way to end a cup final!!!!

Agreed. Golden Goal should be reinstated at extra-time and two players moved out of play every 10 minutes.

So fitness, skills and tactics are still main deciders of game, instead of 80% luck, as in penalties.

I know you are inviting me to comment,ha ha… You may not believe this. I invited myself to a church friend’s place. When Terry took the penalty, his son bow his head and pray. When he missed, he was jumping for joy. When the final whistle came, he confessed he has never pray so hard (with faith) in his life.

Passion is the word and EPL can really drive young people with passion. As usual my office was dead quiet and nobody mention about soccer as I was surrounded by Liverpool fans or rather anti-MU fans. Even church goer like Lewis wanted Wigan to beat MU. Why can’t they just appreciate the way MU plays like yourself..sigh. Yes when your next blog requesting to put the top 4 teams, I will be one of them..

Yes I was dying for you to make a comment. Glad you did. Because Lewis won’t. I agree with you that Man U fans bear a great social cost to be real fans. Why not be an Arsenal fan for a change? Most times folks just pity us instead of hating us. :)

Wenger needs to beef up his team with experienced & quality players. There’s enough young players and players with potential. The next thing he wants to avoid is an exodus of players whose patience are wearing thin with no silverware for years.

The balance of quality young and older players have always been a highlight of Man U’s success(IMHO) so there is always no worry of successors and filling in of gaps. And I think, the defence is always the backbone of a team. A less-than-solid defence with a strong attacking force is always a gamble. One glance at the Goal Against number of the league table and we can see why Man U’s the winner. And Arsenal lack a match winner like Thierry Henry(of the past) where a player’s flair can change a game instantly. Perhaps Theo Walcott had shown he had the potential with that incredible run in the Liverpool vs Arsenal champions league match(only for some silly defensive error to spoil the game)

While Wenger defends Eboue and said he brings a defensive balance to the side, I think we can definitely get a better quality player than Eboue. (Ljungberg wasn’t that defensive, was he? so why need Eboue to ‘defend’?) Eboue can’t dribble, can’t pass well, can’t score and does not work as hard as Ray Parlour. I would like to see a speedy player like Overmars or an intelligent one like Pires (and yes, they can score goals as well). Hleb has improved a great deal but he might be leaving. Walcott always wanted to be playing in the centre and putting Diaby on the left is more temporal than long term.

Arsenal also need a cool-headed defender with an excellent reading of the game. Think Tony Adam. Toure has always been consistent and he’s fast. A Tony Adam partnership will be wonderful. Gallas, IMHO, is still suspect. He might be quicker than Adams but I doubt his reading and his leadership.

So any Arsenal fans down here wanna share your sentiments too? :)

Ahhh…how wonderful to hear from another fellow Arsenal fan…. with knowledge too!

I think the whole spine needs experienced players and gangsters, erh I mean, muscle. Imagine Drogba up front, Joey Barton in middle, and The Undertaker at the back. :)
