blogpastor’s 2008/2009 English Premier League predictions
August 16th, 2008
CHAMPIONS: CHELSEA, because of the “Phil-good” factor and balanced, experienced squad.
RUNNERS UP: ARSENAL, because they now have more experience and an even deeper hunger than last year.
THIRD PLACE: MANCHESTER UNITED, because their two key people, the Portuguese, are out: one, to coach Portugal; the other, a modern slave, injured in ankle and spirit.
FOURTH PLACE: LIVERPOOL, because they still don’t get it: not enough black players in their team. You can’t win the league without them. Maybe in the good old days, but not any more.
Last year, someone named Jas gave the correct prediction:
My predictions:
1.Man U(depth of squad and quality of players) 2.Chelsea(quality of players and their resilience -yea, all those late min strikes) 3.Arsenal(i still feel they need 1-2 highly experienced and quality players. Current squad have lots of speed and technical skills) 4.Liverpool(Benitez is still pretty much a master tactician in European games. New big signings unproven in EPL)
What’s yours? Have some fun and give us your predictions.

Tottenham Hotspurs:
Optimistic: Top 4, because they’ve got eager talented signings (Modric, Bentley, Santos, etc.) and the manager, Ramos, should resurrect Spurs’ attacking flair/style.
Pessimistic: Bottom 10, because Spurs don’t seem to believe in themselves very well and their form is largely inconsistent (as per last weekend’s match against Boro).
Hi Blogpastor, great to know that you are a football fan and still is.
By the way, I’m Jas(and I forgot all about my “prediction” post). You do have a good memory(and archive)
I haven’t catch any games this season and it’s also very early to tell who’s gonna land up where.
I think Chelsea have a very good chance to be champions this year with their depth of squad and quality players & an excellent coach in big Phil.
Man U has to sign 1 out-n-out striker before we can tell how they may fare. Berbatov will be a good addition(though I thought they will go for an even higher quality striker in the mold of van nisterooy)
Arsenal will probably remain 3rd n even slide to 4th. Unless Wenger start to buy 1-2 quality players. Silvestre has experience but I don’t think he’s good enough for 1st choice. Adebayor is as wasteful as ever though he does scores(can’t afford that in high level games). RVP has not gotten back into form. And arsenal seems lost without fabregas. I reckon arsenal need one more experienced & quality DM. And pls, get rid of Eboue. (i’m a frustrated arsenal fan). I miss the likes of Pires & Overmars - players on the left/right flank who can make things happen. Wenger should buy someone in this mold - and push Walcott into a forward role(and used as a substitute from time to time. I still dun think he is ready for 1st team all the way) Wenger has too many young players! (i’m still a frustrated arsenal fan)
Liverpool will remain 4th I think. Somehow, they just dun gel in EPL games.
Tottenham? Great signings but need time to gel & they forgot to sign quality replacement striker. Plus, morale is low at the moment with good strikers leaving. IMHO, they are not ready to challenge the top 4. So EPL is once again a 4 horse race.
Hi Jason,
So you are the one who made the prediction. Good objective analysis. Mine are always infected with a virus called FANBIAS.
Yes, I’ll join you in your frustration……… if Arsene does not sign an experienced midfielder before the transfer window closes.
In the meanwhile, Arsene knows best!
I understand you were a m. in East Timor?
Hi Kenny(are you blogpastor by the way?),
Haha, I’ll agree with you that in the meanwhile, Arsene knows best. He never fails to surprise. The only issue I have is silverware. I’m sure all the fans are hungry for trophies.
I was suppose to be in East Timor for a longer period. Unfortunately my stay was cut short by the violence in May 06(and then of cos some decisions in church). It has been a frustrating wait - God is really stretching me to my max. I will be around in s’pore for another 2 years serving locally before going back to Timor.
Are you interested to know more about Timor? Drop me an email anytime
Which church are you serving in? And what are you presently doing? A Church worker?
Hi Ps Kenny(yes, I think you are blogpastor :)),
Presently I’m a church worker with RCC. By the way, are you a Malaysian?
Yes I am blogpastor. I am Singporean, used to be Malayan ( I don’t think you remember that period). Is RCC the Roman Catholic Church or Revival Centre Church or Renewal Christian Church?
Hi Ps Kenny,
I am from Revival Centre Church. Malayan? That’ll be the stuff I learned in my past history textbooks. I hope to see more of the arsenal in the newcastle match.
