This past fortnight, City Harvest Church has been in the news several times. They have had happy moments, sad moments and just recently a proud moment.
The happy moment for them was when pastor Kong Hee announced that they will move permanently into the Suntec convention hall next year in March for S$310 million. Take out the fireworks and streamers! However, now with City Harvest Church and New Creation Church, the two largest megachurches in Singapore, sharing unexpanded parking spaces and other facilities in the same building come March, we ought to change the name of Suntec City to Queuing City.
The sad moment for them was when Jack Neo, one of their celebrated church members, an illustrous movie director and producer, had his affair with a young actress exposed in the public media. Suddenly, the once cooing media, became hungry sharks thrashing into the family at the scent of blood. Those sharks should have their fins cut off!
The Saturday papers heralded a welcome change of the tide, in a report that Elim Chew received the Forbes Heroes award for her work in coaching and encouraging entrepreneurs in social enterprises. Elim Chew owner of 77th Street, a chain of street fashion retail shops in Singapore and China, is a committed leader from City Harvest Church. It was a proud moment for the church to have a luminary like her put forward in the media as a model of social responsibility in the dog eat dog world of business.
May the shalom rest upon City Harvest Church.
The plot thickens because Foyce Le Xuan, the actress-singer one who claimed that Jack Neo had made indecent proposals to, is also from City Harvest, according to a report in today’s New Paper. And her pastor and his pastor are trying to “mediate between her and Jack”.
Looks like Kong Hee has his hands more than full
There is only one key-word, JESUS!
Only He and He only holds all things. We are all humans and only JESUS as a 3rd party hold on the family and spouses’ love. Read Malcolm Blog, which I felt lifted.
Good balance. We tend to focus on the dirt, but anyone can do that. It takes someone spiritual to see the good. And as far as Jack Neo is concerned, who are we to judge? Without Christ we are no better, since all of us have and even continue to lust in our hearts. Thinking about it is as bad as doing it, according to God’s standard.
I think that was b4 jack neo became a christian
Thinking is of course not as bad as doing it in reality terms. By just thinking, u don’t hurt that person as much as really doing it. Praise will be for those who though harbour ill thoughts but still able to control themselves in the end. That’s the effort they made! I won’t speak the same for those who allow temptations to overcome them, knowing its not right to continue. Whatever it is, when u do something to hurt someone, it’s not right.
To patch up Le Xuan and Jack, doesn’t seem to be should be of utmost priority now… I do not know, by reading the news, it just seems like all the priority goes to Jack, rather than his victims and his wife and children… Unbalanced and unfair….. seems to be.
We understand that even in top schools there are good and bad students although they are taught by the same teachers, be in the same class and using the same materials. When bad students create a scene and made headlines, people would still regard these top schools as top schools and they never blame the school principal or teachers
It is the same for churches, there are black sheep and Jack Neo is one of them . Have read people writing to the forum attacking the church pastor because of Jack Neo’s extra-marital affairs, that was very illogical and not making sense. There are many good people within the church, so why focus on the bad ones?
I am not a member of CHC, and I am not speaking up for Pastor Kong Hee. I just hope that people are wiser before passing any judgement.
Well, if there’s a student with bad conduct, it doesn’t mean that the school is no good. Whether it is still a good school depends on whether the principles and teachers handle it the appropriate way. If they don’t, then how can anyone expect these teachers and principles to produce students with good conduct?
Most people should understand that there are black sheep in every community. I think people are attacking the church on the basis of the way the pastors handled this situation (after they found out more about this case)
Hey! Is this the JJ that was from ACJC and subsequently Ammo Command during NS? =)
Fralyn99 has a good point, however, I am not sure if these people have the same understanding suggested by Fralyn99.
Yes, Jack Neo did something very wrong and , Pastor Kong Hee could have attracted criticism.
But my heart goes out to Jack Neo’s wife and his 4 children, it’s a terrible time for them. It’s unfortunate for Mrs Neo and the kids because their husband and father is a public figure. No amount of critism against Jack Neo and Pastor Kong Hee can help to encourage Mrs Neo and her kids. So instead of passing judgement to people whod may not even read these critism or dun give a ****, I think it’s better to be more encouraging and give support to the hurt and broken ones.
