Preach

Feeding the flock is one of the primary tasks of the pastor. Preaching God’s Word helps equip God’s people for the work of the ministry. Pastors often give considerable attention to the expounding the scriptures. They plan, prepare, research, pray, shape, deliver the message and seek feedback. The pursuit of excellence never ends. They attend preaching seminars, learn from other preachers, hone their craft year after year. They persevere in this pursuit despite the other urgent demands of leading and caring for the church, and in spite of discouragement and weariness. We should honour them for their hard work (2 Tim 5:17).

One good habit to set us on the path of preaching excellence is to read at least one book on preaching annually. Read the book and reflect on your preaching. Let the Spirit highlight special insights and tools that you can incorporate into your preaching methodology.

Here are some books on preaching I have read that you may want to explore:

PREACHING by Timothy Keller

INTROVERTS IN THE CHURCH by Adam S. Hugh

PREACHING FROM THE SOUL by J.E. Kalas

PREACHING FROM MEMORY TO HOPE by Thomas G. Long
